Mom who struggles to overcome drug addiction worries for her two children
Seven-year-old Anthony and his 3-year-old sister Danielle both were born
with breathing and skin problems.
Their mother, Kim, has struggled with a drug addiction for years. She went
to a methadone clinic for three years and has been stable for about two
years. She and her family started to get their lives backs on track until
some people smashed their car into their van and their house. Kim's only
form of transportation was totaled.
"The car also totaled my front porch," Kim wrote in a letter to Valley
Santa. "When it first happened, I just wanted to give up and relapse. I have
a great support system now and they made me realize I am much stronger now
and I should be and truly am very grateful that no was hurt. My son was
asleep on the couch by the window in the front room where the car hit the
house."
Despite their struggles, Anthony get straight A's in school. Danielle loves
to help her mother, Kim said. She asked for Valley Santa's help so her
children have Christmas presents.
"I am always happy to say my children are my Christmas presents because they
have been through so much between their health issues and a mother who
struggles with her drug addiction every day," Kim wrote. "This is why I am
writing to ask for something for them. I would be eternally grateful."
