Pregnant women suffer with drug and alcohol addiction in New York and around the world. The rates of alcohol use, abuse and addiction among pregnant women in New York is of critical concern due to the irreparable harm that can be done to the unborn child if the mother drinks while pregnant. A 2002 report estimated that around 4 percent of women who sought treatment for alcohol related problems admitted to drinking while they were pregnant.
